“My vision for this chapter,” says Ms. Polk, “is to become the premiere resource for women entrepreneurs, helping them propel business growth and professional development. My passion is to inspire people to live their dreams through entrepreneurship.” Ms. Polk’s theme for the upcoming year will be, “Propel her.”

Ms. Polk started her own marketing services firm in 2003, after being denied at work for an internal transfer without good reason. “I’m thrilled to take the helm of the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter,” she says, “and partner with D/FW’s most influential entrepreneurial organizations, government entities, corporate partners and the 296,000 women owned businesses in the Metroplex.”

According to the 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses report by American Express Open, Texas is ranked #2 in the number of women-owned firms. African-American and Latina owned firms are growing at a 125% and 156% rate over a 14-year period.

“Through programming, our chapter will address the business and personal concerns of women business owners such as, access to capital, growth strategies, work/life balance and doing business with other local businesses,” says Polk.

Among Ms. Polk’s other goals for the upcoming year include: creating more opportunities for women to connect and collaborate; partner with influential organizations and corporations that can help propel women business owners; provide professional development so women can become better leaders; grow membership to include student entrepreneurs, corporate partners and community groups.
